Before you begin take some time to review the different types of Pepper Sprays along with their functionality.
About Pepper Spray:
Pepper Spray, now widely used by law enforcement, is an effective alternative to lethal force. It overcame the weaknesses of CS and CN gas. Pepper Spray, when used properly, works instantaneously, with no delay, and the assailant is blinded and disabled for about 45 minutes. Studies have shown that pepper spray is about 60 times more effective than CS or CN gas. The active ingredient is derived from hot peppers and is mixed into a carrier liquid and propelled with a propellant gas.
All Pepper Sprays Are Not the Same:
Hot Peppers are measures on the Scoville Heat Unit scale or SHU's. Bell Peppers are about zero SHU. Jalapeno peppers are about 5,000 SHU's. Cayenne peppers are about 100,000 SHU's, and finally Habanera peppers come in at a whopping 300,000 SHU's. The peppers are crushed and condensed down to create the active ingredient for pepper spray. Don't be deceived by a high OC #. This only means the percentage of oil of pepper. It has nothing to do with the heat rating or SHU of the spray. Some pepper sprays don't even list a heat rating and are made from weak peppers. You might as well spray the assailant with salad dressing. Our Sprays that we offer are derived from the hottest Habanera and Scotch bonnet peppers and test out at 2 million SHU's, the most powerful you can get!
Which Spray Is Right For You?
Most women that are attacked, have their car keys in their hands, according to statistics. So, we recommend the keyring units for most. For home and other security applications, the larger units provide greater volume of spray, greater distance, and more variety of spray patterns.
Cones/Foggers: Sprays are very effective and give a wide angle shot which will not require a high accuracy of firing.
Stream: Units shoot a little further and don't blow in the wind as much.
Foam: Units are for indoor applications where you might be concerned about fumes spreading to others.
Whether you buy from us, or elsewhere, be sure to check the Scoville Heat Units. If no heat rating is listed, stay away from the product. Sprays may range from 1 million to 2 million heat units, 1 million SHU being less effective and 2 million SHU being the most effective.
